Short BIO: Felix & Paula Sirls
Felix Sirls, before retirement was employed by the formally known "Detroit Health & Wellness Promotions" (Now) "Institute for Public Health" (IPH). Felix is an HIV counselor & tester having held this position with different sections of the Department. Mr. Sirls has advocated for HIV care and service for 30 years; In 3 states California, Texas and Michigan. Mr. Sirls is a preforming poet, having published three works of poetry, stories including an autobiography. He performs across the US accompanied by his wife, Paula.
Paula Sirls is the Program Manager for Gospel Against AIDS (GAA). Their goal is to equip houses of worship with HIV education, dispel myths and to eliminate the stigma associated w/ persons living with HIV. Since 2010 GAA has become and HIV testing site which means that a church can offer HIV testing during and after an educational seminar or at a health fair.
Together the Sirls have been on several HIV/AIDS planning bodies were they both served as Co-chairs for the Michigan HIV/AIDS Council. They are the facilitators of Positive Support Organization a support group for positive persons, they are speakers for the Positive Perspective Speakers Bureau, Gospel Against AIDS, they consult w/ WSU (MI education & Training Centers METAC) also medical students advising them on HIV education and healthier out comes for patients. Many have called on the Sirls for presentations. They’ve presented in schools, prisons, beauty shops,colleges campuses and churhes throughout Michigan and the mid-east region. They have traveled extensively to University of Michigan, Michigan State University, Central Michigan University and Oakland University. They have presented around the country at various venues in support of HIV Awareness, Community Involvement and other disability concerns. To be a voice for HIV Awareness and Prevention is their continued goal (Highlighting the heterosexual community).
They have 9 children/ 26 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. They plan to continue HIV education & awareness until it gets to ZERO!
